I need to get a centrino cpu, but I can't find it being sold anywhere. Is it a pentium 4 - m? I think its 478 pin.

Ok I'm really lost. They got mobile pentium 3 with 478 pins, mobile pentium 4 with 478 pins, 512kb cache, 1mb cache, 2 mb cache.

Centrino is not a CPU, Centrino is the whole suite of Intel chipset/mobile components used together that are certified for a "Centrino" system.

But the Pentium-M is the CPU in the Centrino system.

Where can i find a pentium m cpu? I only found one on ebay and it is insanely high compared to p4-m or p3-m cpu going for less than $80.

that's because the pentium-m have 1 meg of L2 cache and are relatively new cpu's compared to the 478 pin pentium4-m's and p3 whatever sockets they are...

No. Centrino is Intel's name for a package of their products. The CPU is known individually as the Pentium-M, not to be confused with the Pentium in the days of old.

Is it possible to run a pentium 4-m on a intel 855 mobile chipset based laptop? I believe the p4-m and p-m have the same socket 478 interface.

Someone in FS/FT is selling a 1.6M for 80 bucks or less I think. Can't remember where the thread was.

Intel should of just poured all thier R&D into that arcitecture instead of the P4, but MHZ sells, I wouldn't be surprised to see intel come up a PR raiting like the athlonXP, my dad bought a cely 2.6 laptop the other day when a 1.5ghz centrino could of been had for the same money (I've told him not too buy technology without conculting me, the same way I don't buy cars without asking his advise but he thinks he know best....whatever)

Nope the Pentuim M is a kinda of a Highbrid between a P4 and a P3. came out of the Israil R&D group. very effecient chip, and fast chip. I would like to see this chip how it performs agianst an athlon in equal situations I bet it would beat the athlon

You can take my benchmarks and compare. Or I can run them. Any suggestions of what you'd like me to compare? I'll be happy to do so with either one of my Centrinos and my host of AMD boxes.
