Without factoring in all the ingredients used to cook up the steak, would it be a healthy alternative? We're talking about 1 serving of the raw steak that you find at your local grocery store. In addition, all the fat would be trimmed away.

I found this site. Is this accurate?

How about low fat? Does it depend on the cut? Is a sirloin low fat? The reason why I'm asking because it's about $2.50 per pound. I think it's a cheap alternative for high protein and weight gaining except I don't know about the fat content.

To be honest, fat is not my biggest concern because my metabolism is already maxed so I wouldn't have to worry about gaining weight from eating too much fat.

It's not just gaining weight you should be worried about when eating large quantities of fat, especially animal fats...

Pinch of salt and pepper. What else goes on a steak?

If you need to marinate a steak, you've either bought the wrong cut of meat or should back away from the meat before you do anymore damage.

Large quantities? It's one lean, fat trimmed steak.

I meant hypothetically without any added ingredients. Because if I said sirloin steak at a coffee shop then we would have predisposed assumptions about the ingredients they used in cooking the steak such as gripload of oil and butter. Or a better way to put it is to cook the steak to your desire using a healthy perspective as in fat free cooking spray and whatever spices you desire.

Almost anything is unhealthy in excess. One serving of steak -- about the size of a deck of cards, or so I hear -- should not be unhealthy at all. Concerns would be fats, cholesterols, and possibly hormones and whatever else went into the meat as it matured. I'm no expert, but I don't see a problem.

BTW, about marinating. A light marinade (I used olive oil, the juice of one small lime, salt, and freshly ground pepper) doesn't mask or alter the flavor of the meat. I'm not a fan of marinating in those heavy, heavily seasoned things, though. Salt and pepper are really all it needs.

Small amount of peanut oil (enough so it doesn't stick) is what I use with a cast iron pan since my grill is 300miles away. I'm surprised at how little people know about cooking a steak.

Generally accepted recipe: Pinch of salt, pepper on both sides. Sear both sides at very high heat on heavy bottomed skillet, turn down heat, finish cooking. Cooking time depending on the cut of meat: thin cuts sear only, as well as very lean cuts like filet (should be extra rare). Fatty cuts, cook to rare-medium rare if very fatty. If you want, place a small pad of butter on top of meat while it rests for flavor.
