I wasn't sure if it was the hole, the texture, or the combination of the two that made a bagel a bagel :)

If someone asked you to close your eyes and then gave you a bite of a bagel with no hole, what would you say you'd taken a bite of?

If the bagel was big enough, and I didn't bite clear through it to the hole, then I'd say it was a bagel.

The way bagels are made dictates there has to be a hole (unless you make the bagel so fat, that as it bakes it closes up, then that's just a crappy bagel) :D

A real Danish is something completely different from a donut, and I don't mean people from Denmark. :D

For the Bagel I'd say yes. It's still a compact heavy piece of bread.
