It depends on who you ask.

I would say maybe.

I might say maybe not a little later though. :D

good luck on finding a 6800 GT on the market at a reasonable price without it being on backorder.

would seem to be the card to get if NVIDIA ever finishes their paper launch of the 6800 series that began 2 months ago.

It'll be worth the wait, besides, i'm not getting another card til I upgrade to PCI-E so it's not hurting me :)

The GT's are ussually faster and with the newer drives which not many of the first reviews used it pulls ahead even more. Now I know ATI's 4.7 beta drivers also push performance up but I havn't actually seen any reviews of it.

Generally speaking, yes it is faster. If i had the money to blow, this would be the card id buy.

lol, the ultra can't even beat an 800pro in some benches.

The other people in this thread seem to have more credibility than you for some reason? (Besides, your "proofs" are all AA/AF) He's asking which is faster, not for technicalities that make one card better than another in certain areas, the 6800 GT is better than the X800 PRO in general, not everywhere.

At the moment, it seems to be generally faster and fuller-featured (dual DVI, too, IIRC). The X800P, OTOH, offers (among other things) playable (in current games) 6xAA and temporal AA, in case you're an AA freak. :)

But, really, we won't be able to say for sure which is the better card until we see more mature drivers and benchmarks on big-ticket games like Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 (As well as the upcoming Far Cry shader mod).

they are close enough to where people argued about which was the best for days/weeks after the first benchmarks

i personally felt the 6800gt was faster in the things i would do after reading the benchmarks/reviews

but not too many flame wars lately, guess people just read a review with benchmarks and such then make the choice on their own, after taking price into consideration.

6800GT is faster in OGL.
X800pro is faster in DX (the vast majority of games) ?.and with AA/AF.

proof

And the X800 does it with better IQ -- better filtering (adaptive-Trilinear) than NV?s Brilinear, and a usable 6xAA compared to only the 4xAA of the 6800.

Its a tossup, but for what the GTs are going for you could get and 800XT which is definitely faster than a GT.

ya know sneakystuff I saw some benchies and PCI-E does worse in almost all of the cases then AGP 8X. Why is everyone so hyped about this? Or am I missing something...VERY big.
