is a 6.1 HTIB worth getting over a 5.1 HTIB?

specifically i'm leaning towards onkyo HTIB setups. but never been able to hear a 6.1 setups myself. is it worth getting?

the onkyo 5.1 is on sale at local fry's for $349 (although i wonder if they'll be dropping to $299 soon to clear them out), and 6.1 is $449.

I don't think the extra channel is worth the difference in price yet. Not enough DVDs that take advantage of that extra rear channel.

not really. DD uses 5.1, DTS uses 5.1. I would stick with 5 speakers and a sub until 7.1 comes out

2 rear center speakers

so has anyone actually heard a 6.1 or 7.1 setup and have comments in comparison to 5.1?

also would anyone in the know, comment on outlook on these various setups? from my perspective it seems like 5.1 will always be standard, and that 6.1 or 7.1 dd (matrixed) will always just be a small supplemental feature as is dolby pro logic today

wait for 4.2.....full wall speakers but multi-way so you can actually figure out where its coming from and such.😛

I have the onkyo 5.1s and its amazing...

We have the onkyo 6.1 at work and it also sounds great... certain movies use 6.1 like gladiator...

both good choices... just how much you wanna spend

Get the 5.1 for the reasons Shiva112 said. My receiver is capable of 6.1, but I haven't bothered setting up that extra speaker.
