I've been messaging this guy on CL and he said he can give me his 4870 for 100, I've negotiated it down from 150. Its a powercooler? Never heard of the brand but it has 512mb, and everything else is the same.

Thanks!

It's powercolor, they're alright. and if you can get a refund if it doesn't work, I'd say it's a good deal. What's your specs?

I just bought a new computer, my old amd 3200+ was starting to fall behind. I tried to build one but its I just couldn't match what Tigerdirect was offering. I got this setup for 300 after bing. Even has a tv tuner!

Found one on ebay for a 100, bought it! : )

Not a bad deal for $100, considering that inferior 4850s / 9800GTs / etc. are still hovering around that price.

That system for $300 is an excellent deal as well. Just make sure your power supply can handle the 4870.

Yes they all have GDDR5. Most have 1GB, but 512MB is fine for 1680x1050, sometimes higher. It's the fastest 512MB card ever so it's a big upgrade over an X1900XT, even if that's the 512 version.

have a stock 4870 512 and stock E8500

play at 16*10 with everything max, 2-4X AA, Win XP, 30+ FPS

only real exception to the above is GTA 4 and I don't own Crysis

Mod account getting hacked, whodathunkit.

4870 for $100 is a fantastic deal. Too bad I can't have those, shipping costs kill it for me. The cheapest 4870 I can get is still around $170 thanks to retailers stuck with old stock. I even saw one that still sold 8600GTS cards, still for about $120. Imagine that.

In the for sale/trade forums used 1gb 4870's are going for like 120/125$. 512mb's for about 100$
4890's for 155/160$
I got my gtx 260 (216) for 125$ and sold my 9800gtx+ for 85$

You got a good deal.

Edit: my system including operating system (windows 7 ultimate) 430$:awe:

I bought this card to CF with my Asus DK. It was the first "open box" item I've bought.
It had artifacts right out of the box at stock speeds. I reinstalled the drivers and it seemed ok but wouldn't loop 3DM2K6 more than twice before I got a warning saying D3D device could not be found. So I rma'd it. It came with a 3850 install disk and an rca adapter.

So I bought a fellow traders Asus 4870 x2 to CF with my DK and it's awesome.

I actually do pretty well at 1920x1200 2xAA with most games I play on my 512MB 4870. Though, I generally play RPG's and strategy games where an overall lower frame rate is probably a lot easier to live with than action/FPS type games.

A 4870 for $100 is a good deal. There were some that went for brand new in the $105-110 range awhile back, but I still think you did well. The 4870 512MB is a ballsy card and holds up really well at 1680x1050 and lower. It'd be nice if it overclocked better, but that's my only complaint. Also cr2250, you should look into overclocking your E8500, it will definitely add some life to your system.

I wouldn't get PowerColor. They skimp on components. There are reports about their 5770's idling at much higher wattage than ones from Sapphire because they cheaped out on the power circuits.
