Is a 4670 or 9600GT a good upgrade from my aging X1900XT?

I mainly play games at high settings on 1024x768 and 1152x864 with no AA and 16 AF, so would a 4670 or 9600GT be a good upgrade from my X1900XT? Which one would be better?

Edited for mistake
.

Edit : no the 4830 is as good as a 8800gt. The 4670 is slower then the 9600gt sorry. So the 9600gt is better.

Go with 8800gt. There's barely any price difference between the 2.

According to AT's benchmarks, the HD4830 is "a lot" better than the 9800GT/8800GT.

My advice? Get an HD4830 (or 4850) and start using AA and AF. Even at those lower resolutions, an HD48xx card will show noticeable improvements over cards like an HD4670 or 9600GT, especially when you start using AA. Trust me on this, you will want to use AA on those resolutions. I game at 1280x1024 and AA (espcially 4x and above) makes a HUGE difference in image quality. And I'm recommending the HD48xx lineup because it doesn't have as big of an impact on performance when AA is turned on compared to other cards on the market.

Would the 4850 be a good for my S939 X2 4800+, 2 gigs of PC 2700 system?

4830 is a tab better than 9800gt even with AA. currently they just released so no rebates or discounts. About $30-40 more expensive. Probably not even worth it for 10% performance for 30% price difference. 4850 is at 4830 price after rebates anyway which is much better buy than the 4830 currently.

Id say get the 9800GT. Its the best for performance/price for what you are looking for seeing as the HD4830 is a tad more expensive.

Well at newegg.

The cheapest 9600gt is 85$ shipped.

Lowest price 8800gt is 149.00$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...me=GeForce%208800%20GT

cheapest 9800gt 119.00$ shipped

9800gt is $100 after rebate though. I think 8800gt will be worth it in the long run over 9600gt. Currently it's still anywhere from 10-25% faster.

Yea i missed that rebate thing. 99$ for a 9800gt is the best deal yet.

so 108.00$ shipped for a factory overclocked 9800gt
or 119.00$ AR shipped for a 4830.

Thats a tough one!

edit: Both are good cards for the op

Hmm. I still think getting a 4850 with $20-$30 rebate to bring the price to $140-$150 is a better deal, but if you can get a 4830 for $100-$120, it's pretty close in terms of price/performance.

I spent a little extra and got a 4850 and I'm really glad I did.

At your resolution (1024x768).......Yes.

At 1024x768 a 9600gt should let you play almost all games on high settings.
