is a 400W PSU enough?

hey guys,

I will be upgrading my Pc soon (next week) and I want to know if my current 400W PSU will be able to run the following:


AMD64 FX-53
MSI NEO 4 platinium
2 gig of mushkin special 2-2-2 DDR400 (4x512mb)
2 raptors 36gigs in raid 0
2 IDE western digital 120 gigs
1 DVD burner
Connect 3D RADEON X850XT-PE PCI-e


It currently runs this setup with no problems:

ASUS A7N8X dlx
Barton 2500+
1 gig PC2700 RAM
2 raptors 36gigs in raid 0
2 IDE western digital 120 gigs
1 DVD burner
ATI radeon 9700 PRO.

Current PSU's actual model? 400w Seasonic/Fortron/Antec vs 400w El Cheapo is not a trivial difference.

I'd say its a 400W cheapo as you put it 😀

then the answer is no I guess. check the 12 volt amp rating(s), should be around 30 for that much rig methinks.

May I also suggest against 4x512mb memory.

thanks, but too late, I got a good deal on the 4 sticks I couldn't pass. At worst, I'll just put in 1 gig in that PC and give 1 gig in my gf's computer or trade it for 2 sticks of 1 gig
