Is a 4 pipeline Radeon 9600 Pro still faster than a 8 pipeline Radeon 8500?

Should I be worried about performance if the R9600 Pro has 4 pixel pipelines instead of the 8x1 of the R9800 Pro or R8500? I have a R8500 and don't know if I can get more performance upgrading to a R9600 Pro.

pipeline isn't everything d00d. The 9600 is a far superior core--using .13-micron processing. The 8500<9500np< / ~=9600pro. While it may not have as much fillrate, it gets around and is far superior to the 8500

The 8500 does not have 8 pixel pipelines, it has 4.

And yes, the 9600 should be faster than the 8500, if nothing else then because of superior memory bandwidth.

I think he means the Radeon 9500 Pro. I would like to see how the Radeon 9600 Pro fares against the Radeon 9500 Pro. Will the 9500 Pro's 8 pipelines give it an edge over the 9600 Pro, or will the 9600 Pro's much higher clock speed (400/300 vs. 275/270) and tweaked memory interface give the 9600 Pro better performance.

Price-wise I don't see how the Radeon 9600 is going to sell - the Radeon 9500 Pro should beat it handily and be priced at around $150 as well. The Radeon 9600 Pro may also not provide enough performance gain over the 9500 Pro for its suggested retail of $200. And just to throw another log on the fire, there's also the GeForceFX 5600 Ultra (reportedly clocked at 325/275 and priced at $200), which is essentially a declocked 4 pipeline version of the GeForceFX 5800.

The next month is going to be very interesting in the graphics card industry as the benchmarks will show which cards are true jewels, and which are cubic zirconiums.

While the 9600 doesn't have a better fillrate than the 9500, it is on a .13-micron core and thusly does not require an external power source. As well, it has a technological advancement over the 9500.

According to FS, it goes: 9600np<9500Pro<9600Pro. I guess we'll have to wait and see though.
