I need a new li-ion battery for my laptop.
there are a few on ebay that are unused still sealed in the box, but they're dated oct 2000. don't li-ion's go bad after sitting around for a while?

Yes they do. I would strongly suggest you not but an old battery. In my experience older Li-Ion batteries tend to self discharge at an extremely fast rate. My really old laptops Li-Ion battery would self discharge itself in about a day with no use. If you want a new battery I'd suggest you buy a NEW battery.

What he said.

All batteries start deteriorating from the moment they are put together.

LiIon batteries are some of the worst. But they have a high power density while they are good.. 🙂 lol..
