Is a 2015" Samsung smart tv a worthy upgrade over a 5-6 year old Samsung plasma?

I was on slickdeals and saw a thread about ridiculously cheap tvs on clearance at Wal-Mart.

One of my local stores had a 65" Samsung led 1080p for $499 and a 55" 4k LG for $399. I bought both since they were so cheap but I am fine with my old Samsung, I also got a 32" Emerson with built in dvd player for $69. My wife is really wanting to keep the 65" and it would be nice to have a bigger tv so I am thinking about it. The model I got was this

I dont care about the smart tv aspects, I use a Fire TV for that stuff

It has been a good week, I also got a nice pair of Paradigm Monitor 9's off craigslist for 100!

I'm keeping my Panasonic plasma until it dies or some tech comes along that blows me away. I think my plasma looks as good as anything new that's out.

I have a family member wanting to buy my older Smasung for 200 if I decide to keep this so that is really pushing me towards keeping the 65

I dont need 4k and the 65" is 1080p, I would only be interested in it for the size difference

I have three Panasonic plasmas and my newest one's last two HDMI ports apparently died last week. The first one died last summer, along with my receiver's entire HDMI board (not sure what happened there!). Anyway, I agree with you and I am hoping the mainboard replacement I found on eBay fixes my Panny plasma.

Good luck, please let us know! I have two Pannys I hope to keep limping along myself.

I never had any personal experience with plasma displays, but recently looked over the tech behind it. I feel like I missed out on a great technology while waiting for AMOLED TV's. -_-

It is a shame marketing sucked and therefore R&D ground to a halt because of popularity, I think if they got the weight down for the larger screens it would have knocked down LCD to 2nd place for sure.

4K is what really killed plasma. It was a great technology, nothing matches it's lack of motion blur on the market today.
