Is a 10 inch screen manageable?

Those of you who use a 10in. netbook on a daily basis, do you feel comfortable spending a few hours in front of it browsing the internet, and typing documents in Microsoft word? Does it get annoying quickly or is it pretty manageable?

I am heavily considering purchasing a netbook, the ASUS 1000HE to be exact. I played with the 1000 HA in the store to get a feel for the keyboard and screen size, both of which seem manageable at the onset. But it is hard to get a long term feel for it.

For reading and browsing, it is better than a Kindle 2 E-Book. And for surfing and writing, a helluva lot better than a Blackberry. It is all a trade-off. If you are not a road warrior and need something small and light for travel - there's not much point in that. A netbook is really intended to be a supplemantary device - not a principal work station.

For Internet and MS Word it is more than sufficient. I've owned a 1000HE for about a month now and I have no problem using it for multiple hours for document editing and browsing.

I can use my Dell Mini 10 for hours comfortably.

btw, just a heads up that Dell just released a new version of the Mini 10 called the Mini 10v. With the new 6 cellbattery it compares pretty well to the 1000he and might be less expensive.

You might also want to look into the Mini 12, which has the 1280x800 resolution.

I have a 9" EEE PC 901, its not bad but it is cramped.

i can get alone ok on my 1000H. Im used to doing multiple things at once, and obviously its no good for that, but just for dealing with some text editing or browsing or whatever, its adequate.

I've used my MSI Wind as my only computer for a week once (on vacation) and it was fine.

I was just thinking along those lines for the OP. Other manufacturers (MSI?) are coming out with 12" models too, both with the Atom and with more powerful CPUs. If the small 10" screen (OMG you've never worked on a 7" netbook) is the stumbling point, then consider a 12" version. More screen realestate and still a lot more compact than a normal notebook.

Is there any good source where I can see the new netbooks coming out and when they will arrive?

The 12" laptops I can hardly stand. The 9" drove me crazy, I could hardly take it past an hour, and the 10" wasn't much better. The keyboard was far too cramped for long typing events. (Working where I do, these things have been flying off the shelves and I have to set each one that's sold up, get the latest windows updates yada yada. Gets old fast.)

I've used my 10" MSI Wind for a few hours at a time and it's pretty comfortable. The keyboard doesn't feel unconfortable for me.
