They're about equal in specs and speed. Check FiringSquad reviews for proof. I'd go for a 9800 just for the potentially greater feature set (F-buffer isn't for everything) and higher OCing headroom.

My friends 9700pro benchmarks a smidgin better in most benchmarks than my 9800nonpro but only like 1% If we both overclock I smoke his card by 30% in High res AA-4x AF-8x 1600x1200 Lower the res and it gets a little closer 8%-->12% Faster than his card.

My Vote goes for the 9800nonpro since it should have no issues overclocking to pro statis.

Go with the cheapest if you are not going to overclock. Go with the 9800NP if you plan to overclock.

At stock, the 9700pro is about 5% faster than a 9800np, for speed. But at a technical level, the 9800np is ever so slightly better.
As good as the 9700pro is for the price, the 9800np would be the better option. They often OC very well, beyond 9800pro speeds.

Both you and I know damn well that this person meant between the 9700pro and the 9800. Dont nitpick just because someone doesn't specify what is blatanly obvious. Thats petty.

Can you OC a 9700p to 415+ core with stock colling? If so, then they are the same.

9800 has better PS2.0/VS2.0 performance than the 9700pro at the same clock speeds. [ H ]ardocp has an article comparing the 9800 to the 9700 at the same clock speeds. In every single DX9 test, save one, the 9800 beat the 9700 by a significant margin. Here's a link: http://hardocp.com/article.html?art=NDQ4
