i want to buy a KDS monitor because they're relatively cheap. Here are the refresh rates:

640 x 480: H=43.3KHz / V=85Hz
800 x 600:H=53.7KHz / V=85Hz
1024 x 768: H=68.7KHz / V=85Hz
1280 x 1024: H=64.0KHz / V=60Hz

it's 85hz all the way up to 1024. will it be ok? will it hurt my eyes?
think it's a good monitor?

thanks

1024x768@85hz is what i use on my 17" right now.

It's very nice to my eyes,at 60hz it hurts but 75hz & up usually is good for your eyes.

I use 85 Hz for all my resolutions. I can't go below that refresh rate and if I set it higher, I don't see any major difference.

Btw, the higher the refresh rate the more stress on your monitor. 85 Hz seems to be the optimal refresh rate.

I think anything over 72Hz is good enough that it won't hurt your eyes. I use 85Hz myself. Whatever resolution is comfortable for you one whatever size that monitor is, and 85Hz is fine.

85Hz is perfectly adequate. Really, I find that anything above 70Hz seems to be okay. It's only when you start getting around 60-65Hz that is may bother your eyes if your viewing it for a long time.
I run 1280x1024 @ 75Hz and it's great for me.

In Win98SE/ME you can set it to "optimal" (though for some odd reason it always sets mine to 75Hz not 85...), in Win2k you just have to pick which res you want.

Anything above 72 should be OK, although some people still notice flicker, i think 85 will be fine.

i run my geforce 256 ddr with a samsung 955sl 19" at 1600x1200 at 60hz and it looks and runs great. *gets flamed for saying 60hz looks great* but it really does!

I'm running at 85hz at 1152X864 and its seems fine to me. Though I didn't notice a difference from 70hz. I could go up to 100hz, but I don't see why I would need to.

85Hz is the sweet spot for a 17" monitor, at least for me. With larger monitors, you need higher refresh rates to mantain the same quality.

I've got the same monitor, a VSi 17, using a GeForce DDR 32, I run mine at 1024x768 and at 85Hz. Runs great, looks great, absolutely no eyestrain whatsoever. BTW, on KDS website, they suggest 85Hz at 1024x768 as the optimal setting for this monitor. I have liked this monitor ever since I got it and it was at a really good price.
Just my $.02!

70+ is ok for some of you???? My eyes have to be very sensitive. Since I've lost my glasses, it can't be high enough. Even @ 85Hz, I notice now how it flickers. But that's only since I don't wear glasses anymore (got now contact lenses). Before, anything up 85Hz was fine. Also keep in mind, that if you play games @ 1280x1024, the refresh rate will only be 60Hz, just for your information. I noticed this with my crappy Sony CPD-220AS monitor when I tried to play Age of Kings @ 1280x1024.
