Is 80 degrees celsius to hot for my 9800xt when idle?

my question is what the message title basically is.

Doing practically nothing, my 9800xt is running at 80 degrees celsius... What should I do to cool if it you think it is too hot or if you don't think it is too hot then what do you think is too hot?

If it is truely idling than it is very very hot. Check and make sure all the fans are running. Also what are the ambient temps in your case?

I don't know too much about cooling, but I have an Ahanix case with a temperature on the front of the air inside. The case is constantly around 27 or 28 degrees celsius.

My Athlon 64 3000+ under load is 55 celcius. That video card has no business idling at such high temps. I say check your hs/fan.

Ouch it's sizzling...now here's where a side Panel Fan comes in handy aiming directly on the Vid card....as mentioned check the current Fan on the card.

i right now have this problem on my 9800pro it runs extremely hot while idling. i have to mod my side pannel to put a 80mm fan and it runns cool

If your 9800P is idling at 80c you have a much bigger issue than can be corrected by a door fan.

I would agree.

Did ATI not put it into the drivers control panel?

80C is far too hot I think my 6800GT is hot and it is only mid 70's under heavy load.

How dusty is your case? Those low profile heatsinks get clogged easily and that could be what is hurting you.

What are your load temps, if you dare check?

What qualifies as "my 9800pro it runs extremely hot while idling" in your country of origin?

extremely hot compared from when i got it from the box. i would say about 50-60

I ujsually leave the side case cover off of one of my non-water-cooled pc's, and blow the dust out every three months or so.

I have a 9800 Pro in my other system... how can I check it's temp?

You can't, only the XT and new have the internal temp sensor.

But there's people here posting temps of their 9800 Pros!!. Are they gettin them from external temp sensors?

Many of the 9800Pros have 9800XT cores in them. So with a simple BIOS flash it unlocks all the nifty little XT stuff.

wow......... I took the side of my case off and stuck a floor fan right next to it aiming inside the case and kind of at the video card. Now instead of a constant 80, I get a constant 77.... I have a feeling this calls for water cooling.... yes? no? ideas?
