Is 72C Idle Normal for a Celeron D?

its a 2.93 GHZ right?

While I am not an Intel user....
I would use cpu-z to see what voltage is needed, you might have it set wrong
I believe a bios upgrade is needed for these on some mobo - you didnt mention which one.

quite a range listed in newegg 1.25-1.4V

user comment:
good for a tight budget

Pros: great price/power ratio...

Cons: does run "hot" when compared with other CPUs... More »

Other Thoughts: This chip is good for building a pc on a budget or upgrading a current 478 system. (BIOS upgrade might be necessary.)

Celeron D chips do run a little hotter than what you might expect, but it's normal and shouldn't hurt them or performance at all.

Thats definatly way too hot. Are you sure the heatsink is making good contact? Is the heatsink hot to the touch(it should be at those temps)?

thats insane. before i sold my cele-d (utter crp) i had it at 3.4ghz under 60C load. What kind of cooling are you using?
