Is 70% Isopropyl Alchohol safe? (Unlocking Thoroughbred)

I just got some Artic Silver 3 and a conductive pen. I want to unlock my Athlon 2200+ and apply some Arctic Silver 3 to replace my Antec Silver compound. I don't have any 99% Isopropyl Alchohol (Anybody know where I can get some?) but have some rubbing alchohol pads. These are 70% Alchohol and 30% water, is it safe to clean off the core with this stuff? Any issues of lint? Thanks

Go to a pharmacy... They will have that stuff.
You can use very pure Ethanol as well...
I would not use the pads, exactly for the lint issue.

Kimwipes are good for that stuff...

I suggest just going to the store and picking up some 91% or higher isopropyl alcohol. 70% would probably work fine, but I wouldn't risk killing a processor to save a buck or two. 🙂

WD-40 is petroleum based. Isn't it going to leave residue on the processor?

Rubbing alcohol is fine. Goof Off & Lighter fluid work like a champ too.

...CPU Dead. $#@%#$%#^@$%^$@^@$%^ just get continous beeps now, why did I want those extra 100 3dmarks? Sending it back to newegg tommorow (Bought the extra warranty), hopefully I'll get it back within a week.

Unless you seriously f'd up, the CPU is likely fine. I wash my CPUs first with Goo Gone, then under running water to remove HS paste - Haven't killed one yet, & I've washed quite a few.

Take it back out, clean it THOROUGHLY, scrub it with a toothbrush if you have to. If the shock pads fall off hold onto them & superglue them back in place later.

Once it's been thoroughly washed, dry it with a hair drier.

You're probably fine.
