Is 64 bit OS worth it?

So is a 64 bit OS worth it if I just use the computer for gaming?

2 GB of RAM will be more than enough for a couple of years, right?

I disagree. I'd say if you think you might go to 4gig or more (and have at least 2 now) then go 64. Otherwise he'll get stuck having to upgrade his OS just to install more memory.

Plus there are security advantages that exist only the 64 bit version. Memory support isn't the only reason to go with 64 bit.

Yeah, but explaining that requires big words and everyone seems to think 'Yea, you know, maybe I do want to go to 4gig eventually' 🙂

Then you got those DX10 games down the road that will be using more then 2-3GB, its only a matter of time, going 64 bit is safer and wiser in the long run.

64-bit is already safer and wiser in the long run as long all of your apps work now.

Its not worth it for games, its worth it because it makes sense, eventually your gonna need to run 4GB+ of ram, so might as well make the transition now. I did and everything works. Im a gamer too, so i have stuff like xfire + a ton of games etc installed. No problems that couldnt be solved easily.

I know this isn't a DX10 game but City Life World Edition uses close to 2 GB of ram easily just running with a large city. Its like Simcity 4 but has a bigger memory footprint because the cities are not just like in simcity but 3d as well when you zoom in. I think for the next Quake we will need at least 2 to 3 GB just to run it as well. 4 GB of ram will be the bare minimum to have with some DX10 games I bet if you have maximum details all on.

Can extra ram like lets say 2 GB vs 4 GB help with being able to use your pc as a PVR in the background while playing the latest games at the same time with a Intel Duo E6420 processor ? I have a WD 150 gig raptor I use for my OS, Applications, and game installations. My Hitachi 500 gig is used for data like for my video recording off my pvr card. Do you think doing both of these things at the same time would require more of a quad core intel processor instead or better off to put the pvr card its own separate pc if possible?
