Is 60C too hot?

I just got my Celeron 633. I was monitoring the temp when I ran the Sandra CPU Multi Media bench mark and the temp went up to 60C:Q. The temps seem to rise and drop very quickly. In a few secs, the temp went back to 20C. All it takes to get it up to 50C is to drag something around like the AIM buddy list. I'm using the Golden Orb and cool outside air to cool it. This is not over clocked yet. I'm affraid how high the temps will go if I did. Is there something wrong or is this normal? Maybe I'm just used to my Celeron 488 at 30C under full load. Thanks for any advise.

That is incredibly high for a celeron processor. Are you sure that you have the Golden Orb on correctly? (Make sure that you twisted it). These things run much cooler than the Durons, and the Durons usually shouldn't go much above 50C.
BTW what are you using to monitor the temperature?

I don't see how your temps could change that fast. Could you have put to much heatsink compuond on? Are you sure your heat sink is pressed tightly against your core?

monitering programs arn't wuite that acurate to my understanding. one thing you can do to keep your cpu at a constant temp is to download the dnet client and run that. if you have any questions about thermal stress and how the dnet client can help, just head on over to the distributed computing forum.

dude!, take the thing out, wipe down the orb, make sure the twisting locking mechanism isn't bent in to reduce "tightness", apply thermal compound and re-install !!! 60c is WAY high for a fcpga core chip...

I have reapplied Artic Silver and I bent the clips on the orb to make it fit tighter. I don't have a high temp problem anymore, but the temp still changes very fast by 10C-20C. Where can I download dnet client?
