I changed the voltage on the fan from 12V to 7V and it seems to idle 35C if i were to put it at lets say 5V do you think that would be to low? it's a panaflo High at 7V right now. it's like whisper quiet right now but just wondering if i can get away with 5v :)

What fan / model #? If someone has it, we can put 5V on it, and let you know.

Come on w00t ! You've been around long enough to know that providing some detailed
info will get a better responce.

Is this a case or HS fan ? I would guess HS. Than what sink is it on ?
What's the model number ? If that can't be given for any reason, is it a two wire or three wire fan ?
Is it 80,92 or 120mm ? Is it 25 or 38mm thick ?

Why don't you just try 5V and be done with it ? :D

Are you wondering if the fan can handle the voltage? Or if the fan will provide enough cooling at 5V vice 7V? After reading it again, I wasn't sure as to what aspect you were trying to get away with.

The working voltage range on most Panaflos is 7-13.6V - no guarantee that they will start at lower, but they may run at 5 if you start them higher and then reduce the voltage to 5. Some may even start that low, but as I said, no guarantee. You'll just have to try it on your particular fan and see.

But if it's a critical fan like CPU or PSU, I wouldn't want it to be running in a marginal condition. I'd leave it at 7 to be sure it STARTS every time.

It was 4:12 last night well anyways i put my 92mm panaflo on 7V instead of 12V it's a panaflo 92mm high fan it idles around 34C just wondering if i change the molex connector to 5V than it will be quieter and still run cool enough? the heatsink is the ICE unit in the shuttles it compares to about a xp-90.

I just played cs for an hour or so but last night it was idling 32C.
