hi guys, this is my first post here, so plz help me out if u can.... I sent the following email to MSI.....it explains everything:

To whom it may concern,

*Please answer the following question in full detail*

I have found out that the MSI K8N SLI Platinum motherboard requires a -5V pin supply in the power supply, and not many power supplies coming out today have this..........i investigated this matter on the MSI forums, and found out that only the earlier models of the motherboard required this, and not the newer models coming out today,.......... after more investigation, i have found out that the taiwan version of the motherboard still requires the -5V pin supply, but the USA version does not require it.....although this is not 100% official, but this is a possible proof offered on the MSI forums.......
the MSI USA website:
http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_sp...p?model=K8N_Neo4_Platinum/SLI&class=mb
MSI Taiwan website:
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=641

if you look on these pages carefully, only the taiwan page says right at the bottom:

For this model, you must use a Power Supply which has a -5V pin supply.

the USA page does not state this......another possible proof i found myself is that, MSI USA is offering a free upgrade to MSI K8N SLI Platinum motherboards purchased in USA.......as far as i know, this offer is not available in taiwan:

http://www.msicomputer.com/msiapps/SLICampaign.aspx

i found out that the -5V pin supply is required for the onboard 24 bit creative audio chip......if the -5V pin supply is not available, there will be no audio, unless u fit in an extra PCI audio card........

all this means that the USA version of this motherboard is different from the taiwan version..........i am in Pakistan, and the version sold here through MSI distributers is imported from taiwan.....so it must need the -5V power supply.......

what i want to ask you, is if you can confirm this, through any means necessary.........i need advice on this.......
I need to kind out exactly if the -5V pin supply is required or not, and in which models it is required, and for which models it is not required...

I am requesting again, that you please answer this question in full detail, and not just give an objective answer.

regards,
Ahmad

the second email in series....

To whom it may concern,
You deleted my previous questions, thinking that you have resolved my problem, but it is not clearly resolved. I am writing below the points that you have NOT told me. Please answer these as well:

1) Is the motherboard update, only in a specific part of the world (e.g. USA, Taiwan, etc..), or is it worldwide (MSI K8N SLI Platinum motherboards made for every region in the world) ? I am asking this because I am from Pakistan, and MSI motherboards are only imported here, but I cannot confirm from where they are imported from.

2) People have told me, that the motherboards coming out these days, do NOT require the -5V pin supply, but their manuals still state the warning ? Why haven't you updated the manuals as well ? You also havent removed the warning from your website:

http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=641

Why is this ?

3) Is there any way, through which I can confirm, whether the board being sold in Pakistan, requires the -5V pin supply or not ? For example, its serial number is above a certain number, Having a careful look on the motherboard for a specific change, etc.. I am asking this, because I do not trust the reseller; he didn't even know that -5V pin supply is rare these days!!

Here is some information about the motherboard being sold by my local reseller:

Motherboard Serial Number: K0503904807
Part No. G57-CB00955 (written on the box)
Number written on a sticker, placed on the Printer/Scanner port: 001109D4514A (there was also a barcode on the sticker)
Number written on a sticker, placed on a small chip right in a corner, next to the RAM slots: 007C79FD (there was also a barcode on the sticker)
On the box, it was written : 'Made in China'

Please provide me as much information as possible, for this motherboard.

I am sorry for troubling you again and again on this issue, but the motherboard costs a lot, so I want to take my time, and confirm it from you guys, that the motherboard being sold here, will work without a -5V pin supply. It is the only matter, which is causing a delay from me from buying this motherboard. So, please do not delete this enquiry, and please answer every question in full detail.

Regards,
Ahmad
