Is $500 a good price for this HDTV?

Someone is selling a 32" Panasonic TAU for $500 on craigslist. It's a CRT and it's 4:3 but it can do 1080i and has an HDMI input. Would this be a good transition TV to HDTV? The only HD channels I'll get for the time being are the ones I can pick up OTA. I'd really like to use this for my media center TV. My video card has composite outputs.

Hey I was going to say that!!

OP: I had a 32" Panasonic HD CRT and I was soooo glad to get rid of that thing. It weighed a ton!! Do yourself a favor and save a few more $$ and go with a 27-32" LCD.

If I could get the guy down to $400 would it be worth it? I really don't want to spend more than that. Otherwise I guess I'll wait a couple of years.

Phillips widescreen HD tv's with HDMI for under $500
I have had mine for almost a year without a lick of trouble. I have also opened it and it has a Samsung Tube in it
Great TV for the money. Yeah its large and heavy but will give a better picture then a LCD could ever give you :)
And its cheaper.

EDIT
i should mention I have the $387 one with free shipping and HDMI and the Sammy tube ;)

CRT would have better image quality, if that's a concern.

Anyhow, you can get 30" widescreen CRT HDTVs for around $500, shop around.

I wouldn't buy, unless you're not moving for many years. The one advantage of CRTs is the picture quality, but the size and weight . . . good gawd!

Yeah, tell me about it. My 34 inch weighs a good 250lbs. It even has built in handles on the sides for two/three people to carry it.

But sweet looking picture though. I would never use a LCD if I could avoid it. CRT, DLP or nothing.

The thing to remember about CRTs is that they are HEAVY I have a Sony Wega 36" HDTV that thing weighs 250+ lbs. I had a very hard time loading into the car and then an even harder time moving it up to my apartment.
