Is $50 worth 0.16 GHz processor?

LOL @ Dell asking for an extra $600 for the jump to the T7600

I'd just stick with the aT7200 personally.

go with the 2GHz T7200 IMO it's not worth it

edit: and your crazy for getting a laptop like that

i am probably gonna stick with 1GB RAM and then buy another gig from tigerdirect.ca (cant use newegg, i am in canada)
With the configuration i want, this laptop will cost me $2950 Canadian. Shipped and taxes included.
Specs will be:
2.0GHz
512MB 7950GTX Go Nvidia
80GB 7200 RPM (100GB 7200RPM is more expensive, but i am fine with 80GB)
1GB of RAM (will be 2GB once i will save more money)

but then again, this laptop is so expensive, i cant afford it at the moment.
righr now i am at $1050 mark. Need $2000 more.
With birthday money plus new years money plus christmas money from relatives, i will be much closer to it.

You'll need to buy 2 gigs though, right? (Since it looks like it only had two Dimm slots?)

What do you mean Yoyo?
It comes with 1GB of RAM.
i will buy another gig of ram of same speed, but much later than I will buy the laptop.

2 slots, comes with 2x512mb, no extra slots to put in more ram so you have to take out the 2x512 and get 2x1gig?

I think he's wondering if the current 1GB RAM you have configured is 2x512mb or 1x1gb. If its the 2x512mb option, you're going to have to buy TWO sticks of 1GB to get 2GB of total memory.

oh oh i see guys.
thanks for pointing that out.

i will ask Dell sales rep tomorrow.
since they only work until 8PM eastern time.

i wonder why Dell doesnt have 24/7 chat. I mean with the money they are making, why cant they hire 10 teenagers to work in night shifts for minimum wage. /shurg

do you already have a desktop spending that much for a laptop is almost insane.... for 1,500-2,000 you could get a sweet desktop. you can also get a nice laptop with like an X1600, C2D, 2GB for a fair price.

No doubt. For that kind of money, it better pleasure me while it sits on my lap..........

For that much, it better do better than that and on multiple occasions. 😉

No i dont already have a desktop.
the one i am using is totally fuxored

its
Asus K8V SE Deluxe mobo
AMD 64 3200+ 2.0Ghz
512MB PC3200 RAM
128MB ATI Radeon 9800 PRO
WD 80GB @7200RPM eATA drive.

with this rig, you would assume i could play most games at least on medium settings.
No, i cant. This computer which i built myself is broken or something.

here are problems with it:
It takes like 30 secons to Alt tab out of any game.
It takes upwards of 15 seconds to launch Firefox (but once its launched its fine)
Can't run many apps at once. I.E. Winamp+WoW+Firefox = system overload. If i tried to open photoshop, it would slow down like hell.

I have literally tried everything such as:
20+ reformats
BIOS update
Chipset update
WinXP home, pro, win 2000.
All sorts of virus scanners such as AVG, NOD32, Kaspersky, McAfee, spybot, adware, and others.
I get normal 3DMarks when i bench it. However in reality, it shouldnt take 30 seconds to alt tab out of World of Warcraft.

anyways, enough of my current pos computer.

The reason why i want to buy such an expensive laptop is because i want it to be a portable gaming station.
I travel fair amount of time and i need to be able to work with comp when i am away. Portable Hard drive is not an option (as in to store my data) I need an actual laptop everywhere i go.

Why am i not getting Inspiron E1705 since i can get 100% same set up as XPS (minus cool looking lights)? Well i really like the look of XPS. it only costs few hundred dollars more but looks so frigging amazing. all these extra lights will increase my e-peen astronomically. 😉

and plus, Dell is offering a free upgrade to 512MB 7900GTX.
That's $450 in savings!
Cant miss opportunity like that.
I would rather use cheap ass cell phone, not have an iPod, not have latest sneakers from Nike and latest sun glasses from Oakley. i'd rather have this bad boy.

The notebooks I like right now:
Macbook Pro: Intel C2D 2.16GHz, X1600 slightly underclocked, 2GB, 120GB, 1440x900, Glossy
Acer TravelMate 8210: Intel C2D 2.16GHz, X1600, 2GB, 160GB, 1680x1050, Blu-Ray

Both very nice notebooks capable of playing games I do prefer of the Macbook Pro compared to the 8210 though. You also said you travel a fair amount your going to want something with good battery life and on the thin side.

You need twice that much RAM. That's why it's so slow changing application and firing new ones up. If you want a decent gaming laptop then go for it, but that system is far from decrepit, with the exception of the RAM (1GB is enough for non gaming, 2GB for heavy use and/or gaming).

I don't see anything wrong with that setup, except of course for the ram, since apps today uses alot of system resources. And you do know you have a single core CPU? and you still want to open up WoW with Photoshop?
By upgrading the video card and getting an X2 you'll save a heck lot more and be able to open your WoW+watever application. Well, good luck anyway with your laptop, looks sweet though.

You definately want at least 1GB RAM in that thing. There's no reason you couldn't play WoW on it.

...you'd be surprised, buddy. but there are people out there in the suburbs who don't know jack about computers or cars. and they will flush out their savings account to get the best equipment a company is offering - don't get me wrong, man, there are people like this out there.

...same goes to the Apple computer lovers.

-you want something user friendly? Windows XP already does a great job.
"no, I'd like my Apple, Windows XP isn't my thing." -wonderful...

Something worth pointing out: 17'' dell laptops are HUGE. I've got a 9300, and actually have been using it as my main computer for a few weeks (been too lazy to RMA my 6800GT in my main rig). I bought it for a 'school' laptop, and got a 6800go in it, 1.73ghz Dothan. It's a very respectible laptop and I've been happily gaming on it since my 6800GT kicked the bucket. However I never bother taking it anywhere anymore. It's just too big and too unwieldly. I REALLY wish I had gotten a 700m at the time instead. I would KILL to have a laptop that actually FITS on lecture hall chair/desks. The 9300 is wayyy too big for it (same chassis as the m1705/10). And it's heavy too. It's not bad, but you'll get tired of lugging it around all the time.

Just thought I'd share my buyers remorse with you.
