How will Win7 64 bit perform with 4GB of memory?

Thanks,

1GB runs Ultimate just fine for browsing and documents. I haven't gotten much more intense than that yet. The memory efficiency is the only thing I am in love with with 7 so far but things look promising after the first service pack.

This is x86 in the case I mention though....

There is No general enough. It depends on how the computer is used.

For mundane Internet, email, and simple office use, 1 GB would work OK.

If you add to the above Memory Hogging game, or one VPC, 2GB would be good enough.

If you do multiples of the above you might need more.

It is Not common that more than 4GB would improve any thing.

4MB would not be enough...well, if you were running DOS, maybe :)

4GB should be plenty for the average user. You would need the x64 version to see more than that anyway. So, you are safe with 4GB

My upcoming build will be 7x64 and I'm starting at 4GB. I fully expect to do 8GB within a year, but that's just because I can.

I game on my 2gb Win7 pro x64 and it's fine. I sometimes even have a web browser with 100mb worth of tabs opened and a newsgroup reader eating 200-300mb of ram running while I game and it hasn't given me much problems.
