My parents are currently using their system to do web browsing, word processing, audio & photo editing, along with slideshow compilation. The PSU is a generic 450W that's powering an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, a nVidia 8600GTS, 2 DVD burners that run often, and 2 HD's (WD Blue 640GB + SG 320GB). They need a faster system now they're doing more slideshows and starting video editing.
They have NO budget for an upgrade and don't mind going all the way, but since this is only a 2-year old system, I don't see the need for them to change everything.
So this what I'm planning for to change and keep for them:
- Intel i7-890
- Corsair Dominator CL9 DDR3-1600 2 x 2GB RAM
- Gigabyte P66-UD4P
- nVidia 8600GTS (current)
- Intel X25-M G2 80GB SSD
- WD Black 1TB
- WD Blue 640GB (current)
- SG 320GB (current)
- 2 DVD burners (current)
Will keeping their old generic PSU 450W suffice? They don't game at all or overclock.
If it needs replacing, I will change their chasis and add 2 fans, as the current one is a crappy generic one with no case fans installed...... only the CPU and PSU fan runs in this one.
