Is 43 degrees celsius normal for 1.33GHz (AYHJA) TBird running idle? I'm using the bios to read the temp & I'm not sure if the temp sensor should be touching the CPU or not.

Thats a good temp for BIOS.. BIOS is actually stresses the CPU.

Pay,
Thanks for the info, but I actually was reading the temp from VIA hardware monitor in MS Windows Me. I meant that I was using the onboard temp sensor. When I actually read the temp from bios it is actually higher.

Pay,

That's incorrect. Most BIOS put somewhere between a 50% and 75% load on the chip. A true loading program like CPU burn in windows will push it muhc higher than bios.

Anyone know howmuch load the Seti client puts on the CPU? My system usually runs @ 52 degrees celsius during Seti.

Another good stress test on a system is Prime95. Pushes my temp as high as it's ever been.

Darn!!! I like to know how everyone keeps getting these low temps... My 1.33AYHJA Bird is running at 60c normally. My "old" 1 gig was around 49c. I have been told that on a MSI K7T Turbo this normal because the sensor strip is in contact with the bottom of the cpu instead of in the base of the socket. When I installed it that was certainly the case...it does touch...

Seti@home and Prime95 are not 100% CPu maxers. In fact, nothing really is. There are things that push higher than both prime95 and Seti@home/rc5, though. Among these are FlaskMpeg and CPUBurn2.

every monitor I use indicates that seti@home is using 100% of my CPU. Anyone using an epox 8K7A had a major problem with the Northbridge overheating? I have this problem, my system will not run unless there is a desk fan pointed at the northbrige. I have ordered some arctic silver and a somwhat bigger Green northbridge heatsink, hope it works otherwise I'll have to RMA and wait another 2 weeks, I am afraid it may be a case ventilation problem but I don't think a case vent problem would be so severe (it won't even boot into windows without the desk fan)

My mobo is a K7T turbo and it does have the sensor touching the bottom of the chip. And my reading is from the bios.

i have a box with a AYHJA Tbird and my idle idle temp is 41C in KT7a with Pal6035 & Artic silver 2, i think that temp should be fine for idle or semi-idle CPU stress. i have seen these tbirds run a bit hotter than this too.

Anything around 40-45c idle is about right for a 1.33, anything higher and you risk lockups.
I know I have referred a lot of people to this document, but it's extremely important, and often overlooked.
Overclockers.com Has an article about chip temperatures, what's safe, stable, and what's not. Definitely reccomended to those who think generic coolers will cut it at 1.4ghz =)
