Is 3MB down / 768k up DSL worth it for $40 / month?

I want this to be available a bit faster.

Ooh, that fiber optic?

Is this even currently available right now ?
40 bucks for 5.0/2.0 is awesome and I'd switch instantly from cable to fios.

Where is this currently available ?
I popped in some northern NJ numbers and it's not available here yet.

Not available in northern Westchester county NY either. I'd switch in a heartbeat as well, currently paying $30/mo for 1.5/384 DSL.

Sounds like not much different based on what you already have. You'd lose your email addr, so, I'd say probably not worth the switch to save for only 3mo's.

PPPoe slows things down on DSL lines, so, overall I think it'll be basically a wash unless you plan on doing some serious game serving it's probably not worth it.

I guess it really depends on where you are.
I had DSL before. MSN DSL which was a reseller of Covad at the time. I had full speed while I had it.
Unfortunately, MSN stopped offering it in my area 🙁 and I'm now on cable which I get full speed also.

It's been a LONG time since my Comcast cable has gone out. I've had a couple "resets" where the modem resets for no apparent reason, probably some type of maintenance or whatever on their end... but it takes about 30 seconds for the cable modem to "reboot" and then it works again. I think the last time it was out was actually when we had that big power outage in the northeast.

The only complaint that I have is that the transfer rates given are not syncronous... I cannot download at 3mbit per second AND upload at 256 kbit per second.

It might be a while. Check the progress here.

Our small town is supposed to get dsl by the end of the year. Speeds and prices are.
1.024 down 128 up 32.95
1.024 down 256 up 37.95
1.024 down 512 up 39.95
All have a 3 year contract. Is the upload speed that important. Mainly surf web although the son may want to play some games online if we get it.

Damn I wish I could get Comcast or something... we have a local monopoly here. Apartment complex signed a deal with a sh!tty local ISP and asswipes capped us on everything :|

can't you choose not to go with pre-assign internet connection and get service from another provider?

I wish I could go ask a lawyer ... as a student, can't afford one.

I would so pay that for 768k up. Right now I'm paying $36/mo for 3M/384k (In actuality it works out to roughly 2.5M/355k) I think the speed is worth the price; $4/mo more for some extra upload speed is worth it too. I'd jump all over the deal.
