In some ways, I think it's the fact that you have to put up with misconceptions based on the horrid state that is 3D movies. Although, I've done 3D on my PS3, and I have been less than enthused with it overall. I guess just getting a mere 3D background just makes you say, "is that it?"
Have you played
Super Stardust HD? - it is said to be the state of the art for PS3's S3D.
Just getting depth in 3D is not enough to give up 2D imo. It certainly adds to the "cool" factor, but playing in 3D needs to give the end user more immersion and ideally better tactical information. And there are only a handful of PC games that are actually designed with S3D in mind. i believe this is Nvidia's entire list of 3D Vision "Ready" titles (the ones in bold, i played).
- Resident Evil 5
- Batman: Arkham Asylum
- Battlefield: Bad Company 2
- Metro 2033
- Just Cause 2
- Mafia II
- Dead Rising 2
- MoH (2010) Multi-Player
- Civilization V
- Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2
- Duke Nukem Forever
- Super Street Fighter IV arcade edition
Fortunately, i would say out of the 80 or so games that function with 3D that i tested - none of which were created with S3D in mind; and from the years 2002-2011 - i would say that more than 60 were at least Good or better. That really opened my old library to replaying some of these games.
Now some of these games really need tweaking to make them better than fair. And fortunately there are the tools to do this including 3D Vision hotkeys and support from Nvidia's and WidescreenGaming forums.
After more than 5 months evaluating 3D Vision - along with about 20 guests - i have to give a solid thumbs up to the S3D experience. Considering that every FPS gamer should have a 120Hz display *anyway*; $99 for a pair of (wired) 3D Vision glasses is cheap enough to try it (if you have a 8800 GeForce or newer).
And i am *still* writing my 3D Vision Mega Evaluation over the long weekend (and for the past 2 weeks) ... i have written well over 10,000 words and i have a lot more to say; and of course, i am uploading charts and images
... Hopefully at least Part 1 will be up sometime today (although my goal is to have it all done in one long [really long] review)
- it is beginning to feel like i am writing a book on 3D.
