Is 256MB DDR at 333MHz faster than 256 PC-800 RDRAM?

No.

PC2700 is barely any faster than PC2100. Unless you have Dual DDR 400 which is marginally better than PC1066.🙂

Irrelevant question. Tell them to get a life.

"Is an emu faster than a dodo?" Same question. 😀

As to Dual, I just interrupted their spat and found out its 256MB Dual Channel DDR SDRAM at 333MHz (2x128M) that they're arguing about - does that make any difference?

Is the PC800 on dual channel? If so, theoretical bandwidth is 3200MB/s, while the PC2700's theoretical bandwidth is 2700MB/s. PC800 single channel is 1600MB/s.

I would but they're my neighbor's kids, barely 12 years old...lord knows I wasn't too concerned about stuff like that when I was that age...

Dual channel DDR 2700 gives 5400MB/s theoretical bandwidth, much more than the dual RDRAM's bandwidth of 3200. Add to that the RDRAM's scary latency, and the DDR is a winner.

The only downside to DDR is that it's addressing range is not as big as RAMBUS. Otherwise it's speed, price, and lower latencys when installed in groups far outweigh that con. I would get the DDR and put it in dual-channel mode if it were me.
