i got a free 250w psu... and to save a little bit of cash, i was gonna use it in the system im building. athlon 1.4, 512mb pc2100, NIC, all-in-wonder video card, sound card, hsf and 2x 120 case fans

does that sound like 250 is enough? or should i spend 35 on a 300w?

PS: im low on cash :)

250 is not nearly enough. I think AMD recommends 350 for a 1.4g.

if u are low on cash i would recommend u not getting a 1.4ghz
u need to spend top $ to buy either a enermax,sparkle,antec 400w psu +

dont cheap out or else u will feel the pain when u fry your chip

wrong 400w
but then again 350w will work as long as it is top notch
but look at what he plans to use with the chip

Despite what most people are saying... chances are the system will actually work with a 250W. If it is a cheapo 250, you may have stability problems.

You definately will be able to use a decent 300W supply and not have problems. A 400W of course is nice and the geek factor is there, but is really overkill. I recommend an antec 300W (PP-303X).

On amd's approved ps list there are 300-400 watt ps listed! So as far as amd is concerned your wrong!

I however think you will have issues with that 250 watt ps!What type is the 350? If its on amds list you shouldnt have any issues!

i had a 2 year old 235 watt PS i was running my 1.33 gig on. ran fine, had stability problems though and thought it might have been the PS. upgraded to a 300W and it works great, hasn't locked yet.

Show me a 250W PSU that works on a 1.4 Ghz and I'll show you a 350W that works. I bet you no 250W PSU works with the 1.4 Ghz regardless on how many peripherals you have attached to it or brand it was made from.

The enermax 350 isn't recommended for the 1400 by AMD... i'm sure it would work.. but if you are gonna buy one... why not get one that is recommended?
