I am wondering if I will get optimal speeds because I am 21000 feet away from a CO, according to DSLreports.com??? So do you know what is the highest connection speed i can get, and if 21000 feet is far away from a CO???
DSL companies usually won't sell to people who are beyond 18,000 feet, & really 15,000 is a better figure to go by. IDSL, however, should be available. Not as fast as DSL, but it's better than nothing.
Just for the hell of it I ran my address & phone number through it... 50,000 feet.
the dslreports thing should also show you all the speeds you can get when you look up your line. Probably just idsl...but I'd go with cable, IDSL tends to be more expensive and slower than ADSL.
At around 19000 feet DSL starts to degrade. Most companies won't sell service over 17000' to you because they can't guarantee speeds. I know a few people who have DSL as far as 18750 with "No" problems at all. These folks work for a DSL company though.
If you can get it at 21000 feet from someone then try it. As long as there are no service contracts you can bail out if it sucks. It should be better than dial-up even at that distance.
i like my cable
i live in a neighborhood of old people so that might be why i get fast speeds but my average speeds are 4800 mb/sec down and of course, 128kb/sec down
my max download speed i've gotten was 7500mb/sec
but that only lasted for about 3 minutes
If you're really 19k away from the TelCo, I'd look into cable. By all means, investigate the possible dsl options, but cable (assuming you're not on a super-populated node) will likely suit you fine.
Cable is awesome dude! I'm kinda confused why people are so hooked on DSL and think it's better...any reasons?? I mean, i understand in heavily populated areas where the nodes are packed, but...
Anyway, I have cable...and I'm 6,900ft. from a CO- only thing is that the CO doesn't have DSL.
