Is 20 hours per WU acceptable for my rig...

As I see more and more members crunching WU's like crazy, I'm curious to know if my average time for a WU, about 20 hours or so acceptable. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advace for your time.

I see it's a P3 500 and you are running Win ME.
If you are running the Cli version of seti you should get a WU done in about 11 hours. If it is the GUI then 20 hours is probably about right.
If you are running the Cli then make sure your system doesn't have some cpu cycle stealing processes going on all the time. No fancy screensavers - blank screen is good for seti.

I should think that that rig should do a WU in about 12-14 hours (from what i have heard from other people).

Are you using the GUI (screen saver) version or the CLI (text version)?

If you are using the GUI, i recommend you let it finish the WU it is on (unless it has just started), and follow the instructions here to install and configure the CLI version of the client 🙂

Happy crunching 🙂

Wiz, yes I am running the GUI version. I have the screen saver set to go black after 1 minute, so I suppose I'm doing the right thing.

ConfusedBW, thank you for the CLI link, I'll look into it, I just started a new WU, so maybe CLI is the way to go.

I have a PIII 500 running Win ME and it only has SETI running on it. I have the CLI version with SETI Driver. I've turned off all the power saving options (except the monitor) and turned off all screensavers. It looks like I've been getting 11-13 hours per work unit on that rig. I've been getting about 2 WU/day out of it.

If you want to get the maximum production out of your rig, go with the CLI/SETI Driver combo. 🙂

Thanks for your input Logix, but this is my main rig and I can't leave it on 24/7 otherwise I can't sleep, it's right next to the head of my bed, too damn loud 🙁

I know what you mean, 3 of my systems are in my bedroom - very loud too because they are all overclocked and have many fans running.
My solution, I learned to sleep with earplugs in 😉

All for the TeAm - that's all they do all night long is crunch seti for TA!
It's the least I can do 😉

Very noble Wiz 😀 BTW, I can't get the link that ConfusedBW to load 🙁 Is there a mirror somewhere? Thanks for your time.

mine calculates in about 11 hours too. But I dont understand how come there are people with like 10,000 WUs?

kulki, when you look at a guy like Shuxclams, for example, you see he has 17.675 years of CPU time, but has only been a SETI member for 1.235 years. There's only one way that's possible: have more than one computer crunching. Some TA members are running SETI on dozens upon dozens of computers.

Take a look at my thread from back in December to see how many machines people have crunching for the TeAm. 🙂

The PII 400 MHz machines I run the CLI on in NT 4.0 average 12 hr/WU with the machine in use, so you should be well under that time even though you're running WinME. 🙂
