Is 2 GTX 460 1GB in SLI overkill for my needs?

I currently have 2 of 'em in SLI overclocked to 880MHz core, 1760MHz shaders and 4200MHz DDR5. The games I most often play are GLQuake and Quake II.

Closing thread, OP has his answer already.

You could probably back off the overclock...other than that I would say you are "future-proofed"

The cards won't even run at full 3d clocks in quake 2. They are designed to save power in games that don't push the cards at all.

OP has been here 9 years and posts this nonsense?

and using two gtx460 is SLI at 1680 with a Core 2 Duo is beyond silly anyway. most of the time that second gtx460 will not even get hardly any utilization because an E8400 will limit the crap out of it especially at that res. and with those old games even one gtx460 at 2d clocks can handle max settings.
