So I just got back from the bar with one of my 4 roommates. We were chatting it up while she was washing up and preparing for bed. The second female roommate (who didn't go to the bar) yelled at us from behind a closed door for beign too loud. The roommate I was out with mentioned that 2am is early by NYC standards. By CA standards, I tend to think of it as late, as that is when the bars close.

What do you think?

2 am sounds about normal. Getting back at 7am when you have an 8am lecture is a bit late.

2 am by itself is neither early or late. Compare 2 am to something else and then you can call it early or late.

It's late because no matter where you live, work starts around 9am.

To start something, it's too early. To end something, it's too late. How complicated is this?

It depends. If you were asleep then it's very early. If you are still awake then it's really late. :p

2am in NYC is early, especially on a friday or saturday night. Most of the time, you wont get home til 4-5am.

Depends on the situation

Night out on the town - early
Work at 6 the next day - late
Finals or a test - early
Hot tub full of topless girls - early

Depends, going out and coming home its early. Trying to get some sleep and being woken up, its late.

Bottom line, if you're coming in from an overnight drunk and someone at home went to bed hours ago, take it easy and be considerate. If you knew me, you would know I have a hard time abiding my own advice there, but I'm only half-drunk now and that's what I would suggest.

PS. Where were you in NYC? I'm a NJ transplant in DC and haven't been to the city in forever.
