Is 2.7v overkill if your ram requires 2.2v?

My ram requires 2.2v but I have the gigabyte p35-ds3l mb and in the bios under DDR2 voltage it only gives me options like +0.1v - + 0.7v. If I set it to about +.6 its about 2.16v and if I set it all the way to +.7 its like 2.27v. What do you guys recommend? Will my ram fry if I set it over the requirement? Thanks in advance.

out of curiousity, what does the voltage in bios and what does the voltage in evererst or some other program when you in your OS?

2,7 V will surely kill any DDR2 on the market, quite fast too. ;)

+0.7 on a gigabyte board = 2.5V. 1.8V is the default, then you add whatever is shown.

Some bios files might have 2.0V as the default, so it COULD be as high as 2.7V.

Try setting it at +0.2V and test your system's stability. If it's stable, then leave it there or even try backing it down a notch. If it's not, then raise it until it's stable. I definitely wouldn't go over +0.4V though.

its +0.7, NOT 0.07...

The DEFAULT and STANDARD for DDR2 is 1.8v

So +.7 means 1.8 + 0.7 = 2.5v

It is wayyyyy too high. Thats the kind of voltage you use with liquid nitrogen cooling.
2.2 or 2.3 should be the MAX you go up to with air.

Even then, I wouldn't go above the rated voltage. So if your chips say 2.2v then you put it at +0.4

when ever i put 2.2 in my bios i get 1.94, i get 1.94 if i put 2.1 or 2.3 in....this is according to everest....

im betting there is a good chance that even if he put in 2.5, he is not seeing 2.5...

also, i think some ddr2 are specced up to 2.4ish...

it doesn't matter how high it is according to spec...ddr2 will die from electromigration pretty quickly even at 2.2v if it's loaded 24/7, and that's assuming that you have a fan blowing on the ram or at least have great airflow in the case to prevent overheating the ram.

i dont think i can agree with that....there are lots ram that have lifetime guarantees that have 2.1-2.2 volt specs...including mine.

there is a good chance evest isnt accurate for your mobo... check it in the bios itself to see what IT tells you it is providing.
