is 2.1 megapixels enough... Is the Canon S100 a true 2.1MP camera

I just bought my first digi cam (Canon S100). 2.1 Megapixels look great on my computer but i was wondering if it is good enough to print as a regular sized picture on photo quality paper?

I have had that same camera for about a year now and I love it. 2.1 is more than enough for great photos. What firmware rev did the camera come with? Check out the powershot page for driver and firmware updates.

have you actually tried to develop the picture? was it comparable to a regular camera? Also, i cant find the firmware for the camera on the link you gave me- i only see drivers for the camera (WIA and USB twain).

I have the S10, and would say that even 5x7s are good enough to print.

Personally, I print out mine on 8x10 paper. From normal viewing distance, you can't tell that its a digital camera, but if you're going to be flipping through the pics, you can easily pick out the pixels (though I don't know if that is due to my printer or my camera).

the higher the megapixel count, the larger pictures you can print out without being able to see pixels...i think the recommended max size for a 2.1 MP camera is 5x7? which is more than big enough for a point and shoot :D

i myself have a canon A20

cool.. thanks guys.. jes wanted to make sure my $140 was well spent. i also have another question.. why is the S100 2.1 megapixels? The highest res that i can take pictures at is 1600*1200, which equals 1.9 mp... can someone explain?

I have a canon Powershot A20 and 2.1 megapixels is plenty to take high quality shots...I looked at 3 > megapixels and the price was to steep for me.

i currently have a canon S300 which has same capability. Don't ever have regrets with the S100/S110 unit, it is so small there is little reason not to bring it everywhere you go. Though i am looking at 4MP and 5MP cams for the inevitable upgrade myself, I still believe that a picture not taken is pretty useless. The megapixel thing is kind of like the megabyte thing with hard drives ....20 GB can only really store 18.5 GB. Make sure you get a nice sized CF card...the 8MB that comes with the canons is pretty much useless
