Is 1x1GB worth it?

I found these two sets at around the same price (but one is actually ddr500). with the 1GB stick, i miss out on dual channel until i buy another stick. With the 512 set, i'll be limited to 2GB (i doubt i'll ever need more). i have an Opty 146 and want good OCing memory.

Mushkin eXtreme ddr500 3-4-3-8

the mushkin has nasty timings but is faster

what do you recommend?

IF you have NO plans of ever upgrading your Ram... I'd probably buy the 2x512 for Dual Channel.

However, I would definately upgrade in the future, therefore I'd get teh 1GB stick for now, and add to it later. The performance hit won't be too dramatic in the meantime, especially if you overclock to its 500 MHz Glory.

My recommendation, get the 1GB stick for now, and add to it later.

2GB right now is relatively cheap. I think it would be good to invest in it before DDR2 starts becoming the norm and DDR is less produced. It'll get expensive if you never plan on upgrading to DDR2 in the near distant future.
