I don't know why the 3600 ddr4 is missing the last number.
Are any numbers important except the first?

I have a Ryzen 5 5600.

I bought some decent 3600 to move some 3000 into a spare PC.

It's far from a night or day difference, might have gained another 5-10% in performance.

Then again I'm using a 5800x3d, which by it's very nature should be less dependent on memory speed than a standard chip.

Everything I've read about it says 3600 is the sweet spot for Zen 3, but the gains off of say 2400 are huge vs much smaller gains off 3000.

By moving to 3600 aren't you moving out of what the memory controller is spec'd to do? IIRC AM4's memory controller goes up to 3200 officially.

No, the differences are so small they aren't worth it. I would instead save up for a better processor, maybe a 5600X3D/5800X3D (This will negate any reason to upgrade RAM in the first place for gaming at least) since 3D chips are far less bottlenecked by RAM speed due to the cache.

Why stop at 3600mhz? Don't listen to the naysayers above. Go up to 3800mhz 16-20-20.

Buy Bdie and OC it manually. You should be able to get decent timings at around 3600 to 3800.

I would absolutely advice against buying new slightly faster RAM for an older platform like this. If you need to double your RAM because you're running out and you plan to keep the rest of the PC for a long time, then sure. In all other cases, its not a good use of your money.

-Yep, upgrade the speed if you're moving from 16gb to 32gb (2 sticks of 16gb are so so so cheap right now) but no point in doing it "just because'.

There's something I would call the "hardware upgrade trap" for techies with hardware addiction.

You are addicted when you cannot help but make upgrades like this because (a) you can, (b) you're curious, and (c) fiddling with hardware gives you more satisfaction than most people are capable of having for it.

I myself would've succumbed to upgrading from DDR4-3000 to 3600, and I'm the first to say you won't notice the difference. If you want to do something, see how much extra VCCIO you need to run the DDr4-3000 with CMD (command-rate) = 1. Otherwise, start planning for your next build, save money with a target date for strategically chosen purchases, and a time-table for configuration and testing.

I decided to OC my 3000mt/s ram to 3200 at the same timings and voltage.
It works fine and stuff seems faster. :)
I'm not going to do anymore with this system.
My next system will be ddr6. :)
