Is 135 grain ammunition safe for all 9mm handguns?

I just noticed that the Hydra-Shok JHP +P rounds I bought today for my personal defence load are 135 grain. I typically fire 115 grain on the range, and I recently bought some stronger 124 grain +P rounds (Speer Gold Dot). I noticed these Federal Hydra-Shok and decided to try them out, though they were rather expensive. However, I didn't realize that these were more powerful, and I DEFINITELY noticed a difference when firing the Speer rounds as opposed to the lower grade target rounds (more recoil).

I have a Ruger P89. Any ideas on where to find the limits?

presuming that the barrel and slide rails aren't corroded, and your internal mechanics (bushings, extractor, sear and trigger group, guide rod spring, etc.) are okay, 135gr. will be fine for your Ruger. You might want to replace the stock guiderod (recoil) spring with a heavier one, however.

Any ideas where to find a new spring? The gun is perfect mechanically, but I wouldn't mind checking out some pricing.

Here ya go... if it's not in here, it likely doesn't exist You should be able to find dozens, if not hundreds, of folks offering exactly what you need.

BTW, good choice on the Federals, although Gold Dots aren't bad. My personal choice is still Cor-Bon however, even though it's spendy stuff. You get what you pay for though

I can't help with the limits of the Ruger, although they should be ok because they also come in 147 gr JHP for our pistol. Take a look at at the mushroom after firing one of those bad boys into something soft. They are great rounds.
