Is 12" too small

Ok, im wishing for the non-existent(small, powerful, cheap). Anyways, i need a laptop, but i dont want it to be more than 13", 12" would also work. Now im having problems choosing, and im wondering what processor to get. Im an AMD fanboy so i think it would be really cool to go for a turion processor, but im not going to go AMD and give up power. There is another catch, which is that i dont live in the states so newegg and pricegrabber links dont help, unless the places ship internationally at low costs. Here is the swiss equivalent to pricegrabber: http://www.toppreise.ch/grp2_197.html

Any recomendations?

Im currently thinking, the first three on this list: http://www.toppreise.ch/index.php?k3=1425&manu=&o=pa

Anyone have experience with the dell XPS XPS M1210, but it anoys me that it costs 215 CHF for a 512 mb ram upgrade (basically 180 USD). do they have to exchange mobo or something to cater for a second stick of ram??? if not i could just buy a stick and add it myself (costs 120 CHF for the one made for the xps 2 http://www.toppreise.ch/prod_60797.html)

I think im going to try and stick to windows. im just so used to the OS.

thanx guys

I use an M1210 and I really like it. Their warranty support has been fantastic. Next day arrival on almost all replacement parts(not sure how this works in other countries).
As far as the Ram, you can upgrade that yourself. There is one stick under the keyboard and one on the bottom of the laptop. Upgrades are high cost items so I almost always do that after purchase. Hope that helps! 🙂

Thanx, how is the sturdyness/ruggedness of the laptop?

and actually about the ram thing. as of yesterday they upgrade the ram to 1 GB for free 😀

My dad has a 10" notebook and claims that i will get annoyed at having a 12" laptop for schoolwork like spreadsheets and such, is this true, should i rather go for a 14" or so?

My thinking: 12" is app 30cm diagonally, which is the length of my ruler. Thats not very small. and on the dell m1210 there is extra space on the sides so the keyboard is larger. Or am i wrong, does it get very tedious to both type and view the screen??

Thanx

EDIT: Also, how will a core duo 1.66 perform?

I'm an X60s owner and i can tell you that a 12" widescreen like an m1210 is better to type on, at first at least, simply because the keyboard is larger and you have more room to work. i have grown used to the keyboard of the X60s but i can tell you that an m1210 keyboard will be more comfortable for most people simply because of size. Thinkpads do have great keyboards but smaller versions of it are not the same...

I just got a Latitude D420 and am very happy with it. It's very light weight and seems to be sturdy. If you're willing to shop carefully, you can get some great deals on the Core Duo at the Dell Outlet.

Anyone know how the m1210 would compare to the toshiba U200 (u205)? I think i should be able to get used to the keyboard, what about the screen though, is it annying?
