I have been looking at 17" monitors and one of my favorite resolution settings for normal computer work is 1152x864.
How do I know if a monitor supports that resolution? Do all 1280x1024 monitors support that resolution? Is it something that is determined by the video card (i will most likely have pny G4 ti4400) or by the 'preset factory resolution modes'?
If 1152x864 isn't one of the preset modes can I still use it anyway?
By the way I am looking at these monitors:
NEC FE771 or FE700+ (both support 1152x864 @ 77hz) - best price $180...possibly $140 @ staples AR, PM
Compaq FS7550 (supports 1600x1200@65hz and 1280x1024 @ 75hz...does it support 1152x864?) - best price $150 @ staples AR, PM
Viewsonic A70f (1280x1024@66hz and 1024x768@87hz...does it support 1152x864?) - best price $140 @ Office Depot AR, PM
