If this person needs only $25k a year to live on do you think that with proper investments that a 35 year old person could retire?

I say $800k is about the minimum needed for someone that is 35 years old to retire, With that amount he could maybe start a business and invest the rest and, maybe, get $25k a year to live on.

Only if you can cut that $25K down to about $5k, then you can live off the interest...

Depends on how they invested it. Probably not comfortably, but you could definitely survive on it.

IF...IF properly invested, there is a slight chance that the person might be able to live a meager life (alone), but it takes more than money to retire. It also takes more than just "starting a business". You have to invest in the business and hope the business does well, etc.. Not easy...

A one-million dollar nest egg would be nice to retire with, but personally I never plan on retiring. Of course I'm in college at the moment but even if I retired from one job I would take up another. I just love staying busy. I can't stand sitting around and doing nothing for more than a day.

Unless part of the $100k is used for business opportunities... there's no other way.

Hmm, I'm no financial wiz but with $100k, I would estimate that he could retire....... for approximately FOUR YEARS!!!

Maybe the title should say "Is $800k enough..."

I'm not sure $25k per year is a reasonable estimate. He would have to be single, and not dating. Or have a sugar momma.

This is the funniest post of the night!!!! I'm 34, and 100K would last me about three years, MAYBE. That's w/o any extravagant purchases....or real food....:Q

Considering my rent is almost $20K/year, I doubt I would last long with $100K.

With $800K, I would at least have a chance in Belize

A 35 year old would probably need atleast 2 million. Starting a business is the fastest way to empty a bank account, next to getting married. :D
