get at least 2.1. 1.3 IMO, won't give you a decent print. We used to tell people that 1.3 megapixels was good enough, but that was when there wasn't anything better and we had to convince them that it was a good idea to spend $400+ on a 1.3 megapixel camera.;)

I have an Epson 850z
It goes to 1.9 MP.
I normally take pictures at 1600x1200 which is close to the 1.5 MP range.

For showing pictures to people that particular size will be fine. It's when you go to print those images that the higher rsolutions really pay off in quality.
It really depends on what you want to do with it.
The pic's in my sig were all taken with that Epson.
They have been reduced on that site for download times , but you can see they all turned out pretty well.

I got a 3.3MP Canon S-20 for under $250. I can't guarantee that you'll get the same type of deal, but they're not rediculously expensive.

3.3MP is a bit high for most applications but I wouldn't go less than 2.1 if you plan to print them at any decent size. :)

For mild enlargements, 3.3 or higher is really necessary. I'm eyeing the new Canon EOS digital that has 4MP and an SLR body. ooooooooo

:)

techinically photoquality is 300dpi:p but you can get away with 1.3mpix for 4x6max if you don't care, i'd rather have atleast 2.3 or whatever. also depends on the camera, some 1.3s suck compared to other 1.3, don't go by that alone. dpreview.com hasreviews i think

Get a many megapixels as you can afford. You need more pixels for large prints, and you lose pixels (resolution) when you crop photos. I wont go for less than 3 megapixels.

BTW I wont be printing these pictures out only looking at them on my computer or sending them to other people so printing is not really an issue at the moment
