I think the IRS' real worry is that roomates and such will abuse the statute to lower their income tax bracket. The whole gay marrige aspect is probably more an afterthought.

Well, that should be an interesting test of DOMA. The constitutionality of DOMA would probably be the prominent issue. I have no doubt that the Court as currently constituted would find DOMA constitutional.

We need the remnants of bigotry hanging on our culture like pieces of lint on a black velvet suit to remind us we aren't perfect.

The IRS is such a morass of stupidity and illogical B.S., no one can claim any legitamacy to its actions. It is an abomination against our right to free and peaceful exchange. It is Bureaucracy with a capital B. In other words, the IRS is busy taking upwards of a third of people's incomes and all we can do is have news stories about it rejecting gay couples filing jointly??

That's like pointing out that a serial killer used a serrated blade instead of a regular one when he murdered his victims, give me a break.

eh whats the point, if you file jointly, dont you get hit by the marriage tax?

It's been phased out

Edit: And probably has to do with the married filing jointly/separately. Can get some breaks depending on which way you file

The better solution is to make the rich pay ALL the taxes

Then once a week they get to pull a cart with their teeth while being whipped.

Like in some European countries.
Presently that is why there are so many tax loopholes in the current system.

Where do you draw the line at who it rich?

Ohwell, I don't know too many people who get married for the fringe benefits anyway, other than John Kerry. He's one guy who does.

Sexual deviancy according to who? Is marriage based on non-deviant sex?

Does this mean that straight friends can file joint returns? I have a buddy and he's not married yet either so we'd like to get a tax break! :p

No, but marriage (for the vast majority anyway) also isn't based on getting work benefits, tax benefits, etc. etc. That is not the MAIN reason anyway which seems to be the one overriding reason for the homosexual population to want the right to get married.

How is this news? Homesexual marriages are not recognized by federal law. Federal law trumps State law.

I betting gay marriage will happen in two. Death Penalty overturned within 5. And abortion overturned in 10.

I never got that argument... There are plenty of non-involved male/female roommates. Why do people think that two guys would take advantage and a guy and a girl wouldn't?

Who says they don't? I know at least one couple who has.
