So I got a CP2000 from the IRS last night for my 2003 tax return...apparently the IRS felt I owed them another 12,000 USD in taxes.

People probably don't care for the long version but the confusion arose from how I reported some stock options I cashed in that year.

Well, I called the IRS today and the woman I talked to listened to my story/explanation and closed the file (cancelled the CP2000) based upon my "oral testimony". How bout that?! Painless and easy...

Of course, I was freaking out last night until I figured out what cuased the confusion and realized I don't owe another dime.

Funny aspect: While I was on hold waiting to talk to a tax specialist...the "hold" music was from the "nutcracker" -- dance of the sugar plum fairy, if my memory serves.

Anyway...IRS isn't all bad, I guess.

's all around.

If they forgive your debts so easily, I wonder if I can call 'em up and ask for a bigger refund?

You just know they had your "file " pulled up on the screen and snipers outside your residence in case you deviated from the truth....they were just fvking with you in case they got lucky and could take you out if they didn't collect and pay off the mangers on the 2nd floor so they wouldn't get told on about the cuban stripper party thing....:p

I have never heard of something like that being cancelled on the phone. I get audited every year (even tho I've never cheated), and have to send them letters constantly reminding them of their tax code and why I don't owe them money.

The break down of the stock option allocation (the actual money I received) was shown on my W-2. But the woman did take my word that all the money I received from the stock option excercise.
