I always tend to redness around the follicles on my face after shaving. I have tried different razors and shaving creams.
I don't know if its the razor or the creams. Or both. I have tried many.
What works for you?

Not that I shave my face ;) but try using an exfoliating wash before shaving, then use a moisturizer specifically for men after shaving.
EDIT: Also try putting a hot washcloth over your face to open the pores and folicles before shaving.

I had a similar problem in another region of my body. I found that woman's shaving razors are somehow more gentle. They also can almost completely guarantee no cuts in that most tender and difficult to shave area.

I always take a hot shower beforehand, it helps keep the razorburn to a minimum.

I have very sensitive skin and this used to be a huge problem for me, especially around the front of my neck. There are lots of "standard" recommendations for the best way to shave...only do it after showering, don't use dull blades, follow proper techniques, etc. For me, I found that regular Noxzema shaving cream (white can) is the golden ticket so it's all I use. It's almost impossible to find in B&M stores so I bought a dozen cans online awhile back. I don't put on any after-shave balms or anything right after shaving. However, at the first sign of any irritation, I use after-shave healing lotion from Clinique (for Men) and that does the trick. I usually shave in the mornings, and oddly enough, sometimes the irritation will hit me exactly 24hrs later. But the Clinique stuff works like a charm.

I always shave during a shower. I might try a womens blade, and the noxema cream. I have never seen the clinique stuff, but I will definitely look for it.

They have wide large heads and nice soft little moister strips. No knicks and gentle shave. Also old heads with dull blades tend to cause problems.

I used to shave before showering and get irritation from the razor or pimples where hair follicles would normally grow in. I switched to shaving after showering and have had no problems since.

shave with an old fucked up blade with no water for a few years, after that nothing will irritate your face

I had the same problem and decided to switch to safety razors ... personally, it was an awesome choice. You can also venture in to the pre-shave ritual that safety razor users do, which is wash up your face or take a shower with hot water to open up the pores and also soften the hair and make it expand (your hair gets a tad longer when wet) so that you can get it to come out of the folicle when you shave. Use the old style brush and soap, and work up a good lather and make sure you keep the part of your face warm and wet. Don't apply pressure and let the blade do the work. A lot of people who use straights or safety's seem to go with the Mach3 if they need something as a backup.

Just grab those mofo hairs and pull them out by the bunch. Alcohol wipes afterward to prevent infection.

Your right maybe shavemyface isn't so much like anandtech after all. I found the folks over at SMF extremely helpful when I went looking for a better way to shave. Members of SMF appear to genuinely want to help and often give new members a DE razor, blades and shaving cream samples to help get them started. I'm pretty sure I never received anything free from posting in anandtech forums.

Hot water, lots of it. Shave WITH the grain. If you need to get a closer shave you can take a second pass against the grain. Make sure you know the direction your follicles grow - it varies on different parts of the face. Never shave any parts without cream to lubricate. I actually use a bit of almond oil on my skin before applying shaving cream - helps a ton.

Fixed from against. Shaving against the grain is the easiest way to achieve razor burn and ingrown hairs.
