Irritating NIC problem - please help!!

You'll get better response here anyways- most of the people here are already networking and in the networking forum I've never received much feedback to posts.

Just a off the top of my head suggestion is to try the card in a different slot (not the first one to a PCI slot) also in bios possibly kill a few of the unused IRQ's such as an unused parallel port and a serial port or 2 if unused. Also go into Hardware and see if it is sharing an IRQ or port with something else. These are some stuff that happens with other plug-in cards to cause conflicts.

Never thought about an IRQ conflict with the Realtek 8139 10/100 Mbps PCI NIC..I'll have to test that out tomorrow. I'll try another PCI slot and I'll kill off the second serial port in the BIOS. I need the first serial port and the parallel port.

I already tried another ISA slot with the Ether16 and that didn't help. 🙁

Most of those ISA card have a programmable IRQ setting but a number of times, Windows couldn't directly reprogram this setting. Windows will assign an IRQ but it's up to you to match this IRQ using the supplied DOS setup/diagnostic program for the card.
