I just built a new system using one of a stack of refurbished mainboards I bought months ago. All of the others worked ok except one where I think the BIOS battery may be bad. This one was working ok but then I started experiencing boot problems like not finding a bootable disk. I would reset and eventually Windows 98 would start.
Well, this morning I've been getting this -- "VMM32.VXD is required to run windows."
The drive is a new Maxtor 80GB that was working ok in another pc. The PS is from a new AOpen case rated as 200W. I know, when I ordered these cases I thought the power would be low, but many from these forums assured me that the hardware I intended on using:
microATX board (ASUS A7N266-VM),
AMD 2000+ Thorton,
1 80GB HDD,
1 CD Drive,
256MB PC2100,
would do just fine with AOpen's PS.
I don't know the likely cause of a problem like this, but I'm going to try a 300W Antec PC before I speculate any further.
If your experience suggests something to you I'll be listening.
Thanks,
b
