i was checking around computer management in win2k and noticed that i had a lot of parts using irq 9. ive been having problems with this computer randomly crashing when i do normal things like clicking on the start menu. im using asus a7v. the following things are all using irq 9: geforce2 , via usb controller, sb live, 56k pci, etherlink pci, and promise ultra100 controller. is that bad? could that be what is making me crash? how should i fix it? help appreciated.

omg... i don't wanna reinstall. i can't change the stuff in device manager. there's no other way?! noooooooooooooooo

you don't have to reinstall. you can disable acpi (read this one for instructions) or you can pull out your cards one at a time to figure out what is causing problems - I would start with the SB live card.

Ditto. Do a little expansion-card musical-chairs. 😀

It seems as if the consensus among all users with SB Live!'s is that they do not like sharing an IRQ with anything, especially when running under Win2K, in my short experience so far with that OS.

sorry for my stupidity... is acpi required to be able to use cdrw or dvd drives? don't laff!!!!! and is acpi better than standard pc hal? computer works alright--would you suggest sticking with it?

My SB Live! is sharing the IRQ with all of my other PCI devices, and it's working fine.
