IRQ's ACPI, all that junk, what to do?

When building a machine with performance specs in mind do most of the people out there just leave ACPI enabled and let Windows 2000 lump everything under one IRQ or do you really get a performance gain by disabling the ACPI and designating the Standard PC HAL when installing Windows 2K?

I've never cared for ACPI in W2K, I like having the ability to assign IRQ's and on my KT7a-R it never ran well under ACPI.
